North Korea rejects US and allies' cyber threat claims as 'political smear'

Pyongyang: North Korea has forcefully rejected a joint cyber threat warning from the United States and ten international allies, calling allegations that its remote IT workers fund nuclear weapons programs a political smear designed to tarnish its image.

The international alert warned that North Korean technicians use fake identities and AI tools to secure remote employment on online platforms, remitting earnings directly to state agencies.

Denying the claims, Pyongyang countered that the US operates the world’s largest cyber force and manufactures threat warnings to justify illegal pressure on sovereign states.

The dispute underscores ongoing international tensions over Pyongyang’s weapons development. Heavily sanctioned over its nuclear ambitions, North Korea is widely suspected by Western nations of relying on widespread cybercrime, cryptocurrency theft, and money laundering to finance its military programs.
