Gunmen Abduct 52 People in Northwest Nigeria

Jos, Nigeria: Gunmen abducted at least 52 people, including children, following a weekend raid on a village and military outpost in northwest Nigeria’s Zamfara state. Around midnight on Saturday, attackers on motorcycles overwhelmed security forces in Kasuwar Daji, killing a soldier and a policeman.
The gunmen seized military rifles and torched a patrol vehicle before breaking into civilian homes to kidnap residents. While over 100 people were initially seized, dozens were later released, leaving 52 still held captive.
Meanwhile, a separate attack in neighboring Sokoto state left at least 11 people dead. Northwest Nigeria suffers from widespread insecurity driven by armed criminal gangs, known locally as ‘bandits,’ who exploit weak state authority.
These groups frequently conduct raids and carry out lucrative mass abductions, generating millions of dollars in ransom payments across the region.
