Miami, United States: Lionel Messi scored his landmark 100th goal for Inter Miami and provided a decisive assist to secure a 2-0 victory over Mexican champions Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup final. 

The annual showdown between Major League Soccer and Liga MX champions ended with the American side lifting its first-ever title in the tournament's history.

The crucial breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute when Messi met a precise byline cross from strike partner Luis Suárez with a diving header to break the deadlock. 

Cruz Azul fiercely pressed for an equalizer throughout the match, but Miami goalkeeper Dayne St Clair stood firm with vital saves, while a second-half glancing header from substitute Gabriel Fernandez agonizingly struck the goalpost.

The result was safely locked away in the 81st minute when Messi delivered an accurate corner kick that experienced midfielder Casemiro powerfully headed home at the far post. 

This triumph delivered Messi his very first silverware of the year, arriving just two months after the emotional heartbreak of losing the World Cup final with Argentina.

Furthermore, the victory marked a dream start for newly appointed head coach Cristian González, who secured a major trophy in his very first match in charge.
