PM Mark Carney Condemns Targeted Mosque Shooting in Canada
Montreal: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has denounced a shooting at an Islamic center in Winnipeg as an appalling act of Islamophobia that has no place in Canada.
No injuries were reported during the Wednesday night attack at the Rahma Islamic Centre in Manitoba's capital. According to statements from the National Council of Canadian Muslims, individuals fired shots at the center from a vehicle and subsequently attacked the building using a blunt weapon while community members were gathered inside. The organization warned that Islamophobic violence is reaching record levels across the country.
Winnipeg police are actively leading the investigation into the shooting. As of Thursday, law enforcement authorities have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the incident, while Carney pledged full federal support to bring those responsible to justice.
