Europe Warns Airlines Against Flying Over Parts of Gulf Until August 31

Dubai: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has extended its aviation safety alert for sections of the Gulf region until August 31, 2026, citing continued military activities and the possibility of further escalation. The advisory includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE, as well as portions of the Gulf of Oman in the Muscat Flight Information Region.

The agency has warned operators under its supervision not to operate at any altitude in the impacted airspace while the warning is still in effect. The caution comes amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran, including concerns about the Strait of Hormuz, attacks on commercial vessels, and military actions.

EASA stated that the presence of missiles, drones, war aircraft, and air-defence systems poses possible dangers to civilian aviation. It also warned that active air defence systems could misidentify civilian aircraft, especially given the region's quickly shifting military advances.

A separate advisory for Jordan has been extended until August 31. EASA stated that it would continue to monitor the situation and analyse the risks as events unfolded. The warning does not automatically result in the suspension of all flights in the concerned countries, but it may have an impact on the routes and operational decisions of airlines subject to EASA standards.
