Louvre’s Apollo Gallery Reopens Months After €88 Million Crown Jewel Heist

Paris: The Louvre’s historic Apollo Gallery has reopened to visitors for the first time since a dramatic €88 million crown jewel robbery in October 2025.
The thieves used a crane-mounted truck and power tools to break into the world’s most visited museum during opening hours and steal French crown jewels. A crown dropped during their escape was badly damaged but remained nearly intact and could be restored.
The stolen jewels have been moved elsewhere, and the gallery will now focus on its historic architecture, including its gilded ceilings and Greek frescoes.
The heist exposed major security weaknesses at the Louvre, prompting the installation of additional surveillance cameras and anti-intrusion systems as part of a wider modernisation plan costing up to €800 million.
