London: Britain's Prince George has turned 13, and his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, celebrated the occasion with a new painting of the future king.

George appears wearing a dark suit and an open-necked white shirt. It was captured by royal photographer Matt Porteous following last month's Trooping the Colour ceremony and shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales with a simple birthday greeting.

George, the eldest of William and Catherine's three children, is second in line for the British throne. His 13th birthday also marks the start of a new chapter in his life, as he will begin attending Eton College in September, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Prince Harry.

Born on July 22, 2013, George has spent much of his boyhood in the spotlight, while his parents have attempted to balance his royal obligations with a relatively quiet childhood. In recent years, he has been accompanying his family to significant royal events as he prepares for his future role in the monarchy.
