Kyiv: A Russian drone strike killed one woman in eastern Ukraine, while a Ukrainian attack caused a major power outage in the Russian-controlled city of Sevastopol, authorities said on Wednesday.
The Russian attack on the city of Balakliya in Ukraine's Kharkiv region killed a 56-year-old woman and injured another resident. The strike also sparked fires and damaged homes, according to local officials.
Meanwhile, authorities in Sevastopol, located in Russian-annexed Crimea, said a Ukrainian attack disrupted electricity supplies across the city. Officials urged residents to conserve phone batteries and assist vulnerable neighbours during the outage.
The incidents come as both Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify long-range drone and missile attacks, despite ongoing international efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict. Peace talks backed by the United States have shown little progress in recent weeks.
The war, now in its fifth year, has seen both sides target military and infrastructure sites far from the front lines.
