Jerusalem: Speaking on the security situation, Netanyahu stated that the military presence is critical to protect northern Israeli communities and prevent future attacks by Iran-backed Hezbollah. He emphasised that Israel will continue its operations until it is confident that the threat from Hezbollah has been eliminated and long-term security procedures have been established.

The remarks came amid ongoing tensions at the Israel-Lebanon border, following months of cross-border exchanges that evolved into a larger conflict. Major violence has decreased due to a ceasefire, although military activity and isolated incidents have persisted in the border area.

Lebanese officials have consistently demanded that Israeli forces leave southern Lebanon completely, claiming that their presence breaches both the conditions of the truce and the country's sovereignty. Additionally, both parties have been asked by international mediators to completely execute the deal and refrain from taking any measures that can rekindle hostilities.

However, Netanyahu insisted that the government's first priority is still Israel's security, stating that forces will remain in southern Lebanon ‘as long as necessary’ to protect Israeli civilians and stop Hezbollah from re-establishing a military presence close to the border.
