Fujairah Urges Residents to Prevent Summer Fire Risks

Fujairah:Authorities in Fujairah have warned residents to take extra precautions as soaring summer temperatures increase the risk of electrical fires in homes.

The warning comes after new data showed that residential properties accounted for about 70 per cent of all fire incidents recorded in the emirate over the past year. Of the 145 fires handled by Civil Defence teams, 102 occurred in homes.

Despite the high number of residential fires, officials reported a 60 per cent drop in fire-related injuries and no fatalities during the period, crediting awareness campaigns and safety inspections for the improvement.

Civil Defence officials said heavy use of air conditioning systems during the summer can place extra strain on electrical networks, increasing the risk of fires caused by faulty wiring and overloaded power connections.

Authorities are carrying out inspections in residential areas and have urged residents to service air conditioning units, avoid overloading electrical sockets and use certified electrical equipment to reduce fire risks.
