UN Welcomes US-Iran Peace Agreement, Praises Regional Mediation Efforts

United Nations: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important step towards ending the conflict and restoring stability in the region.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres said the agreement, which includes an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a framework for further negotiations, offers a path towards a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The UN chief also praised the diplomatic efforts of several regional countries that helped support the negotiations. He expressed appreciation for the roles played by Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and other partners in facilitating the talks.
Guterres said he hopes the parties will use the agreement as a foundation for broader efforts to achieve a final settlement and prevent a return to hostilities.
He reiterated the United Nations' readiness to assist all sides in advancing a lasting and comprehensive peace.
