Brussels: According to a joint statement published following summit diplomatic meetings, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy are willing to lift sanctions against Iran provided Tehran fully complies with its nuclear obligations.
The European powers made it clear that any sanctions relief would be dependent on Iran taking credible steps to address issues related to its nuclear program. The statement highlighted its support for diplomatic efforts to revive agreements that would prevent Iran from seeking nuclear weapons while allowing for peaceful nuclear operations.
The four countries also encouraged Iran to fully cooperate with international inspectors and refrain from taking any moves that might worsen Middle Eastern tensions.Concerns over Iran's uranium enrichment activities, which they claim go beyond the bounds of earlier nuclear agreements, have been voiced by Western countries on several occasions.
Iran, on the other hand, has insisted that its nuclear program is only for civilian uses and has demanded that the sanctions that have negatively affected its economy be lifted. Tehran has consistently upheld that restoring trust and resuming talks require the lifting of sanctions.
In a time of increased regional insecurity, the united declaration represents a fresh European drive for diplomacy. Although there are still significant issues between Iran and Western nations, many believe that the desire to ease sanctions could serve as a catalyst for new negotiations.
