Jorhat: Five people, including two officers, were killed on Saturday after an Indian Air Force Antonov An-32 transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Jorhat air base in northeastern India.

The military confirmed the crash and said a court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.

The An-32, a Russian-built twin-engine transport aircraft, is designed for operations in extreme weather conditions and high-altitude regions. It is widely used by the Indian Air Force for transporting troops, equipment, and delivering supplies to remote and mountainous areas.

This is one of the latest incidents involving the aircraft type, which previously suffered a major crash in 2019 in Arunachal Pradesh near the border with China, when all 13 people on board were killed.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into Saturday’s crash.
