A woman lost more than BD113,000 (Dh1.1 million) after falling victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam in which fraudsters posed as representatives of a well-known trading company and promised high returns.
The victim transferred funds in several instalments after being convinced to invest in cryptocurrency trading. The scammers reportedly provided fake updates showing growing profits, prompting her to invest more money.
She later discovered that the company’s name had allegedly been used by fraudsters to deceive investors. Seeking to recover her losses, she filed a lawsuit in Dubai courts and demanded the return of her money along with compensation.
However, the court dismissed the case after finding insufficient evidence linking the defendants to the alleged fraud. Judges ruled that the claimant had failed to prove that the accused received or misappropriated the funds.
The case highlights the risks of online investment scams and the importance of verifying the legitimacy of investment platforms before transferring money.
