Oman is expected to experience a hotter and drier than usual summer this year, with temperatures forecast to remain above seasonal averages and rainfall expected to be below normal across much of the Sultanate between June and August.

The outlook was issued by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre under the Civil Aviation Authority, which warned that many parts of the country are likely to face prolonged periods of heat alongside reduced precipitation during the summer months.

According to the seasonal forecast, eastern and southern regions of Oman are expected to record below-average rainfall during June, while other areas are likely to receive rainfall ranging from near-normal to below-normal levels.

The centre indicated that similar weather patterns are expected to continue through July and August, with most parts of the Sultanate forecast to receive rainfall at or below long-term seasonal averages.

At the same time, temperatures across Oman are projected to remain above normal throughout the three-month period. Forecast data suggests a high probability of widespread heat conditions affecting large areas of the country during the peak summer season.

The anticipated hot and dry conditions could increase challenges related to water resources, agriculture and daily life, particularly as Oman enters the traditionally hottest period of the year.

Officials noted that the seasonal outlook serves as an early long-range weather indicator and should not be considered a definitive forecast. Residents have been advised to follow regular short- and medium-term weather updates for more accurate information on daily and weekly weather conditions.

The forecast comes as Oman continues to experience rising summer temperatures, with some areas already recording temperatures exceeding 44°C ahead of the season’s peak.
