Bangladesh Elected President of 81st UN General Assembly
The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Hissein Brahim Taha, has congratulated the Government of Bangladesh on its election to lead the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Taha also extended his congratulations to Khalilur Rahman following his election as President of the upcoming UN General Assembly session.
In a statement, the OIC chief expressed confidence in Rahman’s ability to lead the Assembly, citing his diplomatic experience and Bangladesh’s constructive contributions within the United Nations and the OIC. He said Rahman’s leadership would help strengthen multilateral cooperation and support international efforts to address shared global challenges.
The Secretary-General wished the President-elect success in his new role and highlighted Bangladesh’s growing presence on the international stage through its active engagement in global and multilateral affairs.
Taha also reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation and coordination with the Presidency of the United Nations General Assembly in advancing international peace, security, and sustainable development.
The election marks another milestone for Bangladesh’s diplomatic engagement within the international community, with the country set to lead one of the United Nations’ most important deliberative bodies during its 81st session.
