South Carolina: A 56-year-old woman has died following a rare and tragic accident after a patio umbrella was uprooted by a sudden gust of wind at a South Carolina restaurant.

The victim, identified as Dana Winger, was dining with her husband and friends at Bubba’s Fish Shack on Wednesday afternoon when the incident occurred. 

According to the Horry County Coroner’s Office, a strong wind gust caught an unsecured umbrella, sending it flying through the air. The umbrella struck Perreault in the chest, causing fatal trauma.

Emergency medical services arrived quickly and transported Perreault to a local hospital; however, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Local authorities have officially ruled the death an accident, describing the event as a devastating and freak occurrence. The restaurant and local community have expressed deep condolences to the family following the tragedy.
