Bern: Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost was reportedly injured Tuesday morning during a violent home invasion at his villa in Nyon, Switzerland. The 71-year-old motor racing legend sustained minor head injuries when several masked intruders forced their way into his Lake Geneva residence.
According to local reports and the public prosecutor's office, the balaclava-wearing criminals directly threatened the family occupants upon entering the property. The perpetrators physically assaulted Prost before holding one of his sons under threat, forcing him to open the family's main safe.
The organized gang successfully fled the scene with a substantial amount of stolen goods, the precise inventory of which is currently being compiled by forensic investigators. Due to Prost's long-standing status as a prominent brand ambassador for luxury watchmaker Richard Mille, authorities suspect high-value timepieces were targeted.
Swiss cantonal police immediately deployed canine units and extensive checkpoints in an unprecedented search operation. Because the criminals are highly suspected to have escaped across the nearby border into France, French authorities have been mobilized to assist the investigation. Shaken by the brutal incident, Prost has reportedly left Switzerland to return to his part-time residence in Dubai.
