Washington DC: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has signed a one-page document granting Donald Trump, his family, and his business empire permanent immunity from tax-related prosecutions.
The Department of Justice announced on Tuesday that authorities are now “FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED” from “prosecuting or pursuing” any tax claims against the plaintiffs as part of a sweeping settlement agreement.
The deal resolves a $10 billion lawsuit Trump filed against the Internal Revenue Service over the unauthorized leak of his confidential tax records. In exchange for dropping the suit, the government established a $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" to compensate individuals who claim they were victims of government ‘lawfare.’
While the settlement applies only to tax returns filed prior to the agreement, it effectively terminates all existing audits of the Trump Organization’s complex finances.
Critics have slammed the move as an unprecedented use of executive power, while Justice Department officials defended the waiver as a standard practice to ensure finality in high-stakes litigation.
