Denmark Says Russian Frigate Targeted Military Helicopter With Flares

Copenhagen: According to Denmark’s Defence Command, a Russian frigate launched two flares at a Danish military helicopter flying in international waters off Denmark’s coast, with one flare coming dangerously close to the aircraft.
The helicopter was on a routine mission to photograph the Russian vessel when the incident happened on Monday. Danish authorities stated that the flares were launched toward its vessel and identified them as pyrotechnic devices typically employed as warning signals at sea.
The incident has increased tensions between Denmark, a NATO member, and Russia. Danish Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus stated that Copenhagen would call in Russia’s ambassador to clarify the incident. The Russian embassy had not yet responded promptly to requests for comment.
