Washington: According to US President Donald Trump, the United Arab Emirates was one of the Gulf countries who pushed him to postpone a planned military attack on Iran. As diplomatic efforts grew more intense, the operation was immediately stopped.
Trump disclosed that the strike was originally planned for Tuesday, but it was postponed because to pleas from leaders in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, who maintained that talks with Tehran still had a chance. Trump claimed that Gulf allies believe it was still possible to negotiate a diplomatic agreement that would satisfy both the US and the larger Middle East.
According to Trump, the strike had been planned for Tuesday before he issued the order for US military officers to temporarily stand down. He stated that the delay was meant to give diplomacy ‘a chance to work,’ while emphasising that military forces are still an option.
The development comes amid continuing negotiations related to Iran's nuclear program and regional security concerns, as well as increased tensions in the Gulf. As news of the cancelled strike increased expectations of a peaceful resolution, oil prices has reduced significantly.
