Iran Says It ‘Has No Trust’ in US and Will Negotiate Only if Washington Is Serious

New Delhi:Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has “no trust” in the United States and will only return to negotiations if Washington proves it is serious about reaching a genuine agreement. The remarks came as efforts to revive talks over Iran’s nuclear programme and the broader regional conflict remain stalled.

Speaking during the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi said contradictory signals from Washington had raised doubts about America’s real intentions. He added that Iran was still committed to diplomacy but remained prepared to resume fighting if necessary.

Araghchi also said vessels could pass through the Strait of Hormuz provided they were not “at war” with Iran and coordinated with the Iranian navy. The strategic waterway, which handles a major share of global oil shipments, has remained a key flashpoint since Iran imposed restrictions following U.S. and Israeli strikes earlier this year.

The Iranian minister acknowledged China’s diplomatic role and described Beijing as an important strategic partner. He suggested outside mediation could still help restart negotiations, although recent ceasefire efforts brokered through Pakistan have struggled to produce progress.

The comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest proposal and continued to insist on strict limits to Tehran’s nuclear activities. Analysts say tensions remain high despite attempts to preserve a fragile ceasefire and avoid further escalation in the region.
