Washington DC: The U.S. Pentagon has finalised major AI procurement deals with seven prominent technology companies, signaling a shift in its defense modernization strategy.

This move comes after the Department of Defense notably bypassed Anthropic, a leading AI startup, for this specific round of contracts. The deals are designed to integrate advanced machine learning and data processing capabilities into military operations.

The selected companies will focus on developing secure, scalable AI solutions for logistics, surveillance, and tactical decision-making. By partnering with established tech giants, the Pentagon aims to leverage existing infrastructure and proven software reliability.

The exclusion of Anthropic has sparked industry debate regarding the military's criteria for ‘safety-first’ AI versus rapid deployment needs.

These contracts represent a multi-billion dollar investment in maintaining a technological edge. While specific project details remain classified, the focus is clearly on bridging the gap between commercial AI innovation and battlefield application.
