Saudi to end LIV Golf funding this year: reports

Riyadh: A major shift in the professional golf landscape is looming as reports indicate that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) intends to withdraw its financial backing of LIV Golf at the conclusion of the current season.

This move comes amid ongoing, complex negotiations between the PIF, the PGA Tour, and the DP World Tour regarding a potential merger intended to unify the sport.

Since its inception, LIV Golf has been almost entirely funded by the PIF, allowing it to attract top-tier talent with record-breaking contracts and tournament purses.

Analysts suggest that the potential withdrawal of funds could signal that the PIF is shifting its focus toward a collaborative investmentin a new, unified global golf entity rather than maintaining a standalone rival league.

While the future of LIV Golf as an independent brand remains uncertain, the decision could accelerate a final agreement between the warring factions of professional golf.
