Sabah: A pre-dawn fire destroyed at least 30 makeshift wooden homes in the Sandakan district of Sabah, Malaysia, early Wednesday.

The blaze swept through a settlement inhabited by some of the region's poorest residents, including indigenous and stateless communities living in densely packed housing. While approximately 186 residents were affected by the disaster, officials reported no injuries or fatalities.

This incident marks the second major fire in Sandakan in less than two weeks. On April 19, a massive blaze razed 1,000 homes in a nearby coastal village, displacing thousands of people.

In the latest effort, 21 firefighters were deployed to the scene and successfully prevented the flames from spreading to roughly 100 neighboring houses. Authorities, led by Sandakan Fire and Rescue station chief Jimmy Lagung, are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
