Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has formally reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for Russia’s military operations in Ukraine, describing the conflict as a ‘sacred war.’
In high-level meetings in Pyongyang with Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and parliamentary speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Kim pledged that North Korea would continue to assist Moscow in defending its ‘national sovereignty and security interests.’
This declaration follows the inauguration of a new memorial complex in North Korea dedicated to North Korean soldiers killed while fighting alongside Russian forces.
Military intelligence estimates suggest that approximately 2,000 North Korean troops have died in the conflict, particularly during battles in the Kursk region.
In return for its military contributions which include missiles, munitions, and thousands of personnel North Korea has reportedly received significant financial aid and advanced military technology from Russia.
Both nations have recently committed to a long-term military cooperation plan spanning from 2027 to 2031, signaling a deepening institutional alliance that is expected to last well beyond the current war.
