Two Indian Men Shot Dead Outside Gurdwara in Italy, Police Investigate Motive
Two Indian nationals were shot dead in northern Italy in a suspected targeted attack outside a place of worship, authorities said.
The incident occurred late Friday night in the town of Covo, near Bergamo, as the victims were leaving a warehouse used as a gurdwara following a gathering linked to the Vaisakhi celebrations.
The victims, both aged 48, were identified as Raginder Singh, a resident of Covo, and Gurmit Singh from nearby Agnadello. Reports indicate that an assailant approached them outside the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Investigators recovered multiple shell casings from the area, suggesting a deliberate and targeted attack. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was premeditated, with early findings indicating it was unlikely to have resulted from a sudden altercation.
Italian police have launched a full investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the killings. No arrests have been made so far.
The incident has shocked the local Indian community, coming just ahead of planned Vaisakhi celebrations that were expected to draw large participation.
Officials said inquiries are ongoing as efforts continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
