Max Verstappen Pays Tribute After Fatal Nürburgring Crash

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has paid tribute to a driver who lost his life following a multi-car crash during an endurance race at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Race organisers confirmed that 66-year-old driver Juha Miettinen died after an incident involving seven cars during the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The race was immediately halted to allow emergency teams to respond.

Despite rapid intervention and medical assistance, Miettinen was pronounced dead after being transported to the circuit’s medical centre. Officials confirmed that the other six drivers involved were taken for precautionary checks, with none reported to be in life-threatening condition.

Verstappen, who was at the circuit preparing for upcoming endurance racing events, expressed his shock and sadness in a message shared on social media. He described the incident as a reminder of the risks associated with motorsport and extended his condolences to the driver’s family and loved ones.

A minute’s silence was observed in honour of Miettinen ahead of subsequent racing activities.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife, known for its challenging layout stretching over 20 kilometres with more than 150 corners, is regarded as one of the most demanding and high-risk circuits in the world.

Verstappen is set to participate in endurance racing at the venue in the coming weeks, as he continues to expand his involvement beyond Formula 1.
