Global Success at Ireland’s Leopardstown Racecourse

His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Environment, Deputy Chairman of the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club High Committee (REHC), and Member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, affirmed that the ongoing development of the equestrian and horseracing sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain is made possible by the strong support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the continued directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
His Highness also commended the keen interest and dedication of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister's Court and Chairman of the REHC’s High Committee, as well as his ongoing plans to develop the Club and its races.
His Highness made the remarks while attending the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes, held at Ireland’s Leopardstown Racecourse, as part of Irish Champions Festival.
His Highness noted that the continued staging of the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes in Ireland reflects the high level of cooperation achieved in the field of horseracing and provides opportunities to exchange expertise and benefit from international best practices, contributing to the development of the sport in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
For his part, Mr. Yusuf Osama Buheji, Undersecretary for Research and Projects at the Prime Minister's Office, Member of the High Committee of the REHC, and Acting Chief Executive Officer, affirmed that the success of the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes reflects the strong partnership between the REHC and Horse Racing Ireland’s, as well as the positive outcomes of this collaboration.
He highlighted the Club’s commitment to building on this partnership and expanding the scope of cooperation in the next phase, noting that such partnerships provide valuable opportunities to exchange expertise, gain insight into best practices, and learn from international experiences in organizing and managing horse races.
Mr. Buheji added that this contributes to further developing the Club’s operations and enhancing the quality of the races and events it organizes.
This year’s edition of the race featured strong competition among top-class horses over a distance of 2000 metres, drawing strong attendance and participation from leading stables and owners from around the world. The horse Hotazhell, owned by Silverton Hill Partnership, claimed first place.
At the end of the race, His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa and HE Mr. Iain Lindsay OBE OB, Advisor to the Board of Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB), presented the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes trophy to the winners. They presented the trophy to the representative of the winning horse’s owner, while also honouring trainer Mrs John Harrington and jockey Shane Foley for securing first place in the race.
