Chinese FM Wang Yi notes US-Iran situation stands at a ‘critical stage between war and peace’

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, as tensions in the region remain high.
During the conversation, Wang said the situation stood at a “critical stage between war and peace” but noted an opportunity for de-escalation. He reaffirmed China’s support for sustaining a ceasefire and advancing peace talks.
He also stressed that Iran’s sovereignty and rights, particularly as a country along the Strait of Hormuz, should be respected, and that the safety and freedom of navigation in the waterway must be ensured.
Wang added that China was ready to play a constructive role in easing tensions and promoting long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, in line with proposals put forward by Xi Jinping.
