US-Iran ceasefire done in 'full coordination' with Israel: Netanyahu

JERUSALEM: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has clarified that the two-week ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran was reached in ‘full coordination’ with Israel, dismissing suggestions that the truce was a unilateral American decision.

A senior Israeli diplomatic source characterized the agreement as a strategic retreat by Tehran, noting that Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz without securing any of its prior demands, such as financial compensation or the immediate lifting of sanctions.

According to Israeli officials, the Trump administration provided explicit reassurances that the forthcoming negotiations in Islamabad will prioritize three core objectives shared by both nations: the removal of nuclear materials from Iranian territory, a permanent halt to uranium enrichment, and a cessation of regional proxy activity.

Netanyahu emphasized that while Israel has supported the pause to test Tehran's resolve, the military remains ‘ready to return to battle at any moment’ should the terms of the truce be violated.

The Israeli assessment attributes Iran's sudden shift to the ‘relentless pressure’ of recent strikes against its national infrastructure. Despite this coordination, internal friction remains regarding the scope of the deal; Israeli officials have expressed frustration over the exclusion of Hezbollah and Lebanon from the current framework, while Iran has conversely blamed the U.S. for failing to restrain Israeli strikes on Lebanese territory during the pause.
