Israel says US-Iran ceasefire ‘does not include Lebanon’

JERUSALEM:  Israel has formally endorsed US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a 14-day suspension of military strikes against Iran, while pointedly clarifying that the truce does not apply to the conflict in Lebanon.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the proposed pause in hostilities is strictly conditional on Tehran implementing immediate de-escalation measures. These include the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of all attacks against Israel, the United States, and regional partners.

The Prime Minister’s Office reiterated its support for broader US-led efforts to neutralise Iran’s nuclear, missile, and ‘terror-related’ capabilities threats that Israel maintains are a shared concern for Arab nations and the international community.

Washington has reportedly reaffirmed its commitment to these security objectives as both sides prepare for negotiations during the two-week window.

However, the exclusion of Lebanon remains a critical caveat. By specifying that tensions on the northern front fall outside the scope of this arrangement, Israeli officials have signaled that operations against Hezbollah will continue, even as the diplomatic window opens with Tehran.
