Ukraine Expands Strategic Military Ties Across Gulf Region

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a series of landmark agreements and strategic engagements following his recent diplomatic tour across the Middle East, including visits to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.

In a statement, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has taken a “critical step” by sharing its expertise in protecting civilians and key infrastructure, particularly in conflict scenarios. He noted that regional leaders expressed strong appreciation for Ukraine’s experience in this field.

The Ukrainian president also confirmed the signing of long-term strategic agreements, some extending up to ten years, focusing on military technology cooperation and broader defense collaboration. These agreements go beyond traditional arms deals, encompassing integrated systems such as interceptors, defense lines, advanced software, and electronic warfare capabilities.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is pursuing a comprehensive, system-based approach in its defense partnerships. He described the deals as “historic,” marking the first time Ukraine has secured such extensive cooperation agreements in the region.

At the same time, Kyiv is seeking support from its Middle Eastern partners, particularly in strengthening anti-ballistic defense systems, where Ukraine currently faces shortages. Energy challenges were also a key topic of discussion during the tour.

Another major issue raised during the meetings was the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route. Zelensky highlighted the urgency of ensuring stability in the area amid ongoing energy market pressures.

Ukraine also shared its operational experience in maintaining the Black Sea corridor, underscoring the role of its armed forces in keeping the route functional despite conflict conditions. According to Zelensky, Middle Eastern nations showed strong interest in these strategies.

He added that while broader efforts regarding Hormuz are being led by the United States, Ukraine remains ready to support international partners with its expertise when needed.
