AMMAN: Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has ordered a series of immediate austerity measures to reduce government spending in response to regional economic pressures. The directive targets various public sectors to rationalize consumption and tighten fiscal controls across all ministries and official departments.
Key measures include a strict ban on using government vehicles for non-official purposes or outside of standard working hours, effectively cancelling all prior exemptions. Additionally, the government has suspended all non-essential foreign travel for official delegations for the next two months. Other restrictions include cutting costs for official banquets and prohibiting the use of air conditioning and heating units within government offices as part of a wider energy-saving push.
