WASHINGTON DC: The United States has confirmed it is engaged in “serious discussions” with what it described as a “new and more reasonable” leadership in Iran, in an effort to end ongoing US military operations.

In a strongly worded statement, US President Donald J. Trump said that significant progress has been made in negotiations. He expressed confidence that a deal could be reached soon, while cautioning that failure to do so may result in major escalation.

Trump stressed that a key condition for de-escalation is the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global route for oil and gas shipments. He warned that if the waterway is not “open for business,” the United States could intensify its military actions.

According to the statement, potential targets include Iran’s electricity generation facilities, oil infrastructure, and Kharg Island—a major terminal for crude exports. Trump noted that these sites have so far not been targeted during operations.

The statement also referenced retaliation for US casualties, accusing Iran’s former leadership of decades of hostility and violence.
