Iranian Ambassador Defies Lebanon Exit Order
A diplomatic standoff has emerged between Iran and Lebanon after Tehran’s appointed ambassador, Mohammad Reza Sheibani, refused to leave Beirut despite an official deadline imposed by Lebanese authorities.
The decision is part of a series of unprecedented measures taken by Lebanese authorities following the involvement of the Iran-backed Hezbollah in a new and devastating war with Israel. Lebanese officials have accused the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of directing Hezbollah’s military operations during the conflict.
In a statement, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry clarified that the move does not signal a complete severing of diplomatic ties with Iran. Instead, it described the action as a measure against the ambassador for violating diplomatic norms and obligations.
However, the Iranian source indicated that Sheibani’s decision to remain in Beirut comes in response to requests from Nabih Berri, Speaker of Parliament, and Hezbollah.
