Young Reds Rout India 51-20 in Asian Opener
The national youth side routed India 51-20 on Thursday, racing to a 31-goal win in a ruthless start to the Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship in Amman.
They were 22-10 ahead by half-time and showed no sign of easing off. Bahrain struck another 29 goals after the break while India managed only 10.
Mohammed Al Marzooq was named Man of the Match after helping Bahrain set the tone in their opening group game.
The win put Bahrain on two points in Group A and gave them an early lift before a much sterner test against hosts Jordan on Friday.
South Korea also opened with a big win, beating Uzbekistan 47-29 to take two points of their own.
Bahrain face Jordan at 8pm Bahrain time on Friday as they chase a second straight victory. They then meet Uzbekistan on Sunday before taking on South Korea next Wednesday.
Group A also includes India, while the draw was redone last week after Japan and Chinese Taipei withdrew from the championship.
The tournament runs in Amman until August 31 and doubles as an Asian qualifier for the 2027 IHF Men’s U19 World Championship, with the top four teams earning places at the world event.
