Bangkok: Thailand's military chief, Gen Ukris Boontanondha, visited Myanmar's new military head, Gen Ye Win Oo, in Bangkok on Thursday, the latter's first international trip since taking office.
The talks are expected to focus on security along the countries' 2,400-kilometer border, where Myanmar's continuing civil war has created instability and spillover fears. The summit takes place as Myanmar's military-backed leadership works to escape years of diplomatic isolation following the 2021 coup.
Myanmar’s former military chief Min Aung Hlaing, who led the coup, became civilian president earlier this year, while Ye Win Oo took over as armed forces chief. The diplomatic effort reflects the growing regional peace pact toward Myanmar's post-coup leaders.
