Bahrain Chairs Arab League Meeting, Condemns Regional Threats
Fawzia Zainal, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, chaired the Council of the Arab League meeting at the level of permanent representatives, as part of preparations for the upcoming Arab Foreign Ministers’ session.
The meeting was held under Bahrain’s current presidency of the 165th session, in the presence of Hossam Zaki.
During the session, Ambassador Zainal expressed Bahrain’s appreciation for the efforts made by the United Arab Emirates during its previous presidency of the 164th session. She also commended the leadership of Ahmed Aboul Gheit in advancing joint Arab action amid ongoing regional challenges.
In her opening remarks, the ambassador strongly condemned what she described as Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as the Jordan and Iraq. She stated that such actions represent a clear violation of international law and pose a serious threat to regional security and stability.
She highlighted Bahrain’s diplomatic efforts at the United Nations Security Council, which resulted in the adoption of Resolution 2817, noting that it received broad international support.
Ambassador Zainal also warned of escalating threats to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing their direct impact on global trade and energy security. She called for firm Arab and international positions to safeguard regional security and ensure freedom of navigation.
She concluded by emphasizing that the current session is being held amid sensitive regional conditions and unprecedented challenges affecting Arab national security. She underscored the importance of strengthening joint Arab cooperation and coordination to address these challenges, reaffirming Bahrain’s commitment, during its presidency, to unity, sovereignty, and the protection of Arab interests.
