Pakistan Storm Tragedy: 15 Dead in Karachi After Roofs, Walls Collapse

Karachi: At least 15 people were killed and several others injured after a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds struck Karachi overnight, officials said on Thursday.

The storm, which began late Wednesday, battered Pakistan’s largest city, causing walls and roofs to collapse at multiple locations. Emergency services confirmed that the victims were brought to the city’s main hospital, while more than two dozen injured individuals received treatment for weather-related incidents.

Authorities said the strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 90 kmph, uprooted trees, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted traffic across several parts of the city.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, warning of hazardous conditions as fallen trees and debris blocked roads. Municipal crews have been deployed to clear affected areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that unstable weather conditions may persist, with more rain, thunderstorms, and possible isolated hailstorms expected in Karachi and other parts of Sindh province due to a westerly weather system.

Meanwhile, emergency services reported that adverse weather also impacted several other regions across the country.
