Donald Trump demands Iran’s ‘unconditional surrender’ as strikes continue

Washington: Donald Trump has demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender,” saying there will be no agreement with Iran until the country accepts defeat as US and Israeli strikes continue.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said a deal with Tehran would only be possible after the country surrenders and installs leadership considered acceptable by the US and its allies. He claimed that once a new leadership is in place, Washington and its partners would work to rebuild Iran’s economy and help the country recover.

The conflict is nearing its second week following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in earlier strikes. However, it remains unclear who will lead Iran next or under what conditions military operations might end.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration expects the campaign to last four to six weeks, adding that the US is already moving toward its military objectives, including weakening Iran’s naval capabilities.

Trump has so far avoided using the term “regime change,” a phrase associated with past US interventions in the Middle East. Officials say the president wants to avoid a prolonged conflict similar to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, while still pushing for a leadership shift in Iran.
