The first evacuation flight organized by the United Kingdom government for its citizens in the Middle East was delayed after a chartered aircraft failed to depart from Muscat, Oman, on Wednesday evening due to technical problems.

The plane had been scheduled to leave the Omani capital at 7:00 p.m., but a technical malfunction prevented the aircraft from taking off. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office told The Independent that the issue caused the delay and that the flight could resume later on Thursday.

The evacuation operation is part of an emergency plan launched by the British government to relocate its nationals from the region amid rising military tensions linked to the ongoing U.S.–Israeli conflict with Iran.

According to official figures, around 130,000 British citizens have registered their presence in the Middle East since the escalation began.

Meanwhile, no information about the expected government evacuation flight appeared on arrival boards at London Heathrow Airport on Thursday morning. In contrast, flights arriving from Nigeria and South Africa landed on schedule, along with a commercial flight from Riyadh.
