2,000 Palestinians Apply for New Transitional Police Force
A major step toward Gaza’s stabilization was announced today as the International Board of Peace, established by U.S. President Donald Trump, held its first meeting in Washington, D.C.
H.E. Nick Mladenov, appointed as Head of the newly formed Office of the High Representative (OHR) for Gaza, revealed that the recruitment process for a transitional Palestinian police force has begun. Within hours of opening applications, 2,000 Palestinians registered to join the new security initiative, which will be trained in Egypt.
“This force, operating under the authority of the National Committee for the Transition Period, will ensure that all factions in Gaza are dismantled and all weapons come under one civilian authority,” Mladenov said. “The full implementation of the 20-point U.N. Security Council plan is critical to this process.”
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Board of Peace to oversee Gaza’s administration, remove roadblocks, and coordinate closely with Israel, Palestinian institutions, and the International Stabilization Force, led by General Jefferson.
Mladenov stressed the importance of demilitarization, saying, “There is no other option except the full decommissioning of weapons for reconstruction to begin and for people to have a new way of life.” He also expressed gratitude to Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for supporting the framework.
President Trump highlighted the U.S. commitment, pledging $10 billion toward Gaza’s reconstruction and emphasizing the board’s focus on action over talk in pursuit of lasting peace.
The early response to the police recruitment effort signals strong local engagement in Gaza’s transitional security framework and a significant milestone in the enclave’s postwar stabilization.
