The International Board of Peace, established by U.S. President Donald Trump, held its inaugural meeting today in Washington, D.C., focusing on the future of the Gaza Strip. The launch signals the board’s commitment to outlining postwar reconstruction plans for the enclave.

Although the board formally includes representatives from 27 countries, envoys from nearly 45 nations attended the first session, reflecting broad international interest in the initiative.

During the meeting, President Trump emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, stating that countries must work together toward a Middle East free from extremism and conflict. He also highlighted the role of Iran, urging Tehran to join efforts to stabilize the region, while warning that consequences could follow if it fails to do so.

Trump pledged a $10 billion contribution from the United States to support the board’s initiatives, describing it as a modest investment compared to the cost of war. He stressed that the board is focused on actionable solutions rather than discussions alone, positioning it as a model for regional nations taking responsibility for peace.

“The Board of Peace is showing how a better future can be built, starting right here in this room,” Trump said. “Together, we can achieve the dream of lasting harmony in a region long affected by war and suffering.”

Despite the high-profile launch, key challenges remain, including implementing Trump’s proposed peace framework and addressing the potential demilitarization of Hamas. Diplomatic sources indicate that further consultations are expected as stakeholders consider security, governance, and humanitarian issues in Gaza’s long-term planning.
