Nestlé Recalls Another Batch of Baby Formula Over Contamination Fears

Amsterdam: Nestlé has recalled another batch of its SMA baby formula, expanding an ongoing global recall linked to potential contamination concerns.

The Swiss food and beverage giant last month recalled more than 60 batches of its infant formula products after routine testing at one of its factories in the Netherlands detected the presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by the Bacillus cereus bacterium.

Cereulide is a heat-resistant toxin that can cause vomiting and diarrhoea if ingested. Nestlé said the contamination was traced to arachidonic acid (ARA) oil, a key ingredient in baby formula used to support brain and nervous system development.

The ARA oil was supplied by a Chinese manufacturer and is used across several SMA products, including powdered and ready-to-feed formulas.

Nestlé said the affected batches were identified through internal quality checks and stressed that the recalls were precautionary. The company has not reported any confirmed illnesses linked to the affected products and said it is continuing investigations with suppliers to prevent further contamination.
