21 Killed in Spain Train Crash
Madrid: At least 21 people have been killed and dozens injured in a major train collision in southern Spain, the deadliest rail disaster in the country in more than a decade. The crash happened near Adamuz, close to Córdoba, when a Madrid-bound train derailed, crossed onto the opposite track and collided with an oncoming train. About 400 passengers and staff were on board the two trains, with at least 24 people seriously injured, including four children.
Spanish Transport Minister Óscar Puente described the incident as ‘extremely strange’ as an investigation was launched. Rail services between Madrid and Andalusia were suspended, while rescue teams worked through twisted wreckage to reach trapped passengers. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called it a ‘night of deep pain,’ as authorities warned the death toll could still rise.
