U.S. President Trump Warns Cuba to “Make a Deal” or Lose Support
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Cuba that it must “make a deal” with the United States or face consequences, saying that Venezuelan oil and money will stop going to the island.
Trump posted on his social media platform that there will be no more oil or money going to Cuba – zero. He urged the Cuban government to negotiate with the U.S. quickly.
This warning follows recent U.S. action in Venezuela, where American forces captured former President Nicolás Maduro last week. The United States has also moved to control Venezuelan oil supplies, which Cuba has long relied on for fuel and money.
Trump said that Cuba depended on Venezuelan support for many years. In return, he claimed, Cuba provided security services to Venezuelan leaders — but he said that this support has ended.
In another message, Trump shared a post suggesting that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could become Cuba’s next leader, and said, “Sounds good to me!”
Cuba Responds
The Cuban government rejected Trump’s statements. Cuba’s foreign minister said the country never received payment for any security work and has the right to buy fuel from any willing supplier.
Cuban officials also condemned U.S. actions in Venezuela and insisted that Cuba will choose its own trade partners without U.S. interference.
