BP Names New Chairman After Predecessor's Ouster

London: British oil giant BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its permanent chairman following the sudden ouster of his predecessor over alleged governance issues. The decision completes an extensive search process involving both internal and external candidates.
Tyler had served as interim chair since May 26, when BP unexpectedly removed former chairman Albert Manifold. Manifold was ousted following serious concerns regarding management, oversight, and conduct, though he strongly denied the allegations.
The board change occurs during broader leadership turnover at the energy giant. A month prior to Manifold's departure, Meg O'Neill took over as chief executive, replacing Murray Auchincloss after less than two years in the role.
The executive transitions follow recent friction with investors. At its annual meeting in April, BP shareholders rejected a resolution that would have reduced the company's climate reporting requirements.
