Seoul: South Korea will extend its waiver on visa processing fees for group tourists from six countries, including India, for another six months as part of efforts to sustain the recovery of inbound tourism, Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol said.

The fee exemption for C-3-2 short-term group visas, which applies to travellers from India, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia, will now remain in effect until the end of June next year. Processing fees for these visas are normally set at 18,000 won.

Koo said the decision aims to maintain momentum in international arrivals, as South Korea’s tourism sector continues to rebound to pre-pandemic levels. Official data show that the number of foreign visitors rose by 17.3 per cent year-on-year in November.

China remained the largest source of tourists during the period, followed by Japan, Taiwan, the United States and the Philippines, reflecting a broad-based recovery in regional and long-haul travel to the country.
