Denmark’s PM Calls on Trump to Halt ‘Threats’ Against Greenland
Copenhagen: Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called on US President Donald Trump to stop threatening to take over Greenland, saying the US has no right to annex the Danish territory. The warning follows US action in Venezuela a day earlier.
She urged Washington to respect Greenland’s people, who have made clear the island is not for sale.
Her remarks followed Trump’s claim that the US needs Greenland for defence. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen described the comments as disrespectful but said there was no cause for panic, while Denmark’s ambassador to the US stressed that territorial integrity must be respected between close allies.
